Brazil Airline GOL Says Demand In June Rose 10%

SAO PAULO (Dow Jones)--Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (GOL, GOLL4.BR) registered an increase in traffic for the month of June as the local economy continued to expand, the company said Wednesday in a statement.

GOL registered revenue-passenger kilometers, or RPKs, of 2.28 billion last month, up 10% from a year earlier.

The company attributed the increase in traffic primarily to the expansion of Brazil's economy. The country's gross domestic product is expected to expand more than 7% this year, after dropping 0.2% in 2009.

RPKs are the number of paying passengers multiplied by the number of kilometers they fly.

GOL's load factor, or the percentage of available seats that are occupied, reached 61.9% in June, down from 63.8% in the same month the year before.
