Congress aims to keep American-US Airways spots in Washington safe

Congressional members are working to keep spots in Washington open if a US Airways and American Airlines merger goes through.
 

More than 100 members of Congress are pushing to keep slots for American Airlines and US Airways open at Reagan National Airport if a proposed merger goes through.

Reuters reported the members are asking U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Attorney General Eric Holder to keep the slots because closing them would mean few flights to smaller towns.

Tempe-based US Airways is buying Fort Worth, Texas-based American, and regulators are looking at the implications of a combined airline that would be the largest in the U.S.
