Shuttle by United will operate fully dedicated fleet beginning in 1997

Shuttle by United will solidify its operation beginning next March when the low- fare carrier starts operating with a fully dedicated fleet of 45 aircraft, all painted in Shuttle livery and with cabins reconfigured specifically for the Shuttle's unique type of service.

The Shuttle fleet will consist of 23 B737-300 aircraft and 22 B737-500 aircraft reconfigured with a new interior layout that removes an existing galley and replaces it with eight more coach seats and new galley equipment. The First-Class cabin will remain onboard, and seat width and pitch remains identical to seating on United mainline aircraft. The planes also will be painted in the Shuttle's distinctive blue and white color scheme and will be scheduled to fly only on Shuttle routes.
